On my 67 the AM radio is broken. I have a AC car with the AC removed.
I was going put a aftermarket Cd/Radio in the center dash vent location.
Good idea? Or bad idea?
As long as you don't have to chop the dash to do it and keep all the parts I say it would be fine.
Have you seen the units you put under the seat and the controller is remote?
Personally I think it would not be a good idea. If you have to make ANY modifications to the metal dash shell and then end up not liking your aftermarket radio install, it's a very time consuming and involved process to install another dashboard shell to fix any modifications that you had to make. I'd either put the radio inside of the glove box compartment, or under the seat as Andy suggested. There are also companies on the Internet that can convert your original broken factory AM radio to a modern radio with various options that would allow you to keep the radio in the factory location.

Consider sending the radio out to be converted. Or do what Andy suggested and you can hide the radio in many places.

Yup, what Rich said, that would be the way to go!
I say bad idea, I wouldn't chop up the cluster. You can get the install kit and mount it under the dash like I did. It's the easiest way to go anyways, and of course saves the dash/cluster from being cut. Heres a pic. of mine.

I thought about doing the exact same thing but I don't have the AC/heater box removed. I just decided against it to keep the dash looking original. I put my aftermarket cd in the glove box. I did also have my am radio fixed so it works
