Lost a top ball joint, well it look to have become unthreaded from A arm,is this possible???????Never knew these damn thing screwed in,yep I have the socket for it and gonna replace this weekend. Got towed home cause really didn't wanna replace my whole quarter panel and other POS trying to get home, loosing a tire!. Hope A arm isn't trashed, man to see your tire leaning inward towards engine is freaking scary!!! Anybody else had this happen? Hell my whole front end is new!!!!
May I suggest you soak that ball joint thread with some brand of penetrating capability and the thread rotation is reverse thread ( just a reminder). I've done that job, many times...it sucks.
The only 2 ways I know it can do like you describe are the following:

1) Upper ball joint was improperly installed (cross-threaded or not tight or the hole was already damaged) and over time it loosened and enlarged the hole to the point the UBJ pulled thru the UCA.

2) The other is if the UCA was rusted, and the UBJ broke thru the hole.

Either way, you're most likley looking at replacing the UCA. Post a picture of what it looks like.
thats wild and glad that no one got hurt at when this happened ....
In case your arm is ruined, you can get new loaded arms from places like Classic Industries. We just ordered a pair for a car due to rust(not from around hereBig Grin)
Hope you didn't damage anything else like your tire honcho, good luck.

WOW that is bad news looks like Andy has a great fix there, those arms do get worn out over time who knows how many ball joints have been in there over all these years
Ok thanks guys ,so instead of righty tighty, just the opposite??? Really??? Damn I glad I posted this, yea car didn't get hurt, gonna tear into it Sat. It may be safer to replace UCA they are not that expensive anyway
Sorry to differ Tim, but the threads are normal right hand, just a little weird looking. Get another upper control arm no matter what. Cheap insurance.
yea I welded new ball joint in,not gonna come back out. UCA looked ok,just next time ball joint goes out gotta replace UCA thanks for ya's help Todd

I like it, that's one way to fix it. Here we are telling you where to go and how to get there and you see right through it and do the correct fix. LOL. Way to go.
