Everyone wants to go fast. My question is where do you start to build a fast, SAFE car? Please let me know what you think.
I would start with the front suspension. Proper alignment and tire pressures. Next, the rear suspension must match the power out put of the engine and transmission. To sum it all up, I would start from the ground up.

Just me... but it has to start with the driver.

What's the sense of building a car with ungodly amounts of power if you can't handle it properly?

All the blowers/hair dryers/spray in the world ain't gonna help someone get down the track if they stuff it in the guardrail at the 60 foot mark...

Ok here goes. Let me know what you think. First what ever car you have and you are ready to take on the challenge of safety and speed so here goes. What we need to know is a base line for your car. You will need to keep a log book of all your times and mods that you make. I would make 5 passes for my base line and improve from there.
Ok so what is next think about it?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say an NHRA (or whatever sanctioning body you're competing in) rule book? They have already done the research to establish what safety mods are needed for the ET/speed you're running. And a good 5 passes will show what you need to already have in place. From there, depending upon how much money you want to spend "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?", you will know what safety measures need to be improved in your vehicle.
Very good as knowing the rules is a must. The book will give all the specs to pass tech. I am thinking about a Bbody. One of the first things to do is to tie the frame with frame connectors because as we know all Mopars twist and the stiffer you can make the chassis the straighter you will come out the gate. More on that later.
